Royals extend Grudzielanek Quote:
The Kansas City Royals and second baseman Mark Grudzielanek on Monday agreed to pick up the option in his contract for the 2008 season.
Terms were not disclosed.
The 37-year-old Grudzielanek is hitting .306 with five home runs and 40 RBI in 85 games for the Royals this season. In his first season with Kansas City in 2006, Grudzielanek won his first Gold Glove Award and hit .297 with a team-leading 85 runs scored.
"The Royals are delighted to be able to reach an agreement on a contract extension with Mark," Royals senior general manager Dayton Moore said.
A 13-year veteran, Grudzielanek is a career .289 hitter in stints with Kansas City, Los Angeles, the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis and the Washington/Montreal franchise.
