Buddy Bell resigns

According to the Associated Press, "Buddy Bell resigned as the Kansas City Royals' manager, effective at the end of the season... Bell announced the decision before Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins and said he will remain on for the rest of the season." Anyone surprised?

Re: Buddy Bell resigns

Is he sick of the losing? Doesn't think he'll stay around for the young'ns to develop?

Cool Re: Buddy Bell resigns

"I had to make a choice between managing and my family, and to me that's a no-brainer," said Bell, who spoke to Moore earlier in the season about leaving the team.

"There are some things I want to do in my life right now, and that's spending time with my family and with my daughter, in particular," Bell said.

His daughter Traci was born with Down syndrome, and Bell said he wants to spend more time with his growing number of grandchildren.

Bell said health concerns also played a part in his decision. Last September, he had surgery to remove a cancerous growth in his throat.
It's obviously not baseball related. I had no idea that he had a daughter with Down syndrome and that he had cancer.

Re: Buddy Bell resigns

Bell even said that he was in a position that he needed to choose between baseball and his family. Also said it was an easy choice. As it should be. Way to go, sir, glad to see he's got his priorities straight.
