Cool 1st half Royals review

They're 38-50 in a brutal division and have no chance to make the playoffs. Will this team ever compete for a playoff spot?

They have improved tremendously from last year. They are a young team that needs time to develop. Right now they are in a roll, taking series 2 out of 3 and having winning road/home trips. I believe KC will be one of the big dark horse teams next year.

At this point, Mike is right. It's not about playoffs but developing all the great young talent they have.

If they can get some nice young pitching to come along in the next 2-4 years, they could have a sweet team before some of these guys hit free agency.

How is Gordon doing? What kind of season is he having? Is he worth the fuss they made over him?

He had a bad start, but he has come on and played decent. He's raised his average from about 1.30 at the early part of the season to 2.32 as of now. I think Gordon needs more time to develop this year, and we will see his true talents next year. But if he was hitting the way he is now in the early parts of the season, his average would be higher than what it is. I believe he will be a force next year.

KC actually has some decent pitching this year. They have kept them in many games, but sometimes the offense is not able to get going. But our offense has improved tremendously, and they are starting to score runs and capitalize on the great pitching support they are getting. If KC is able to keep this momentum and take it into next year, they MAY be a contender for the AL Central. Dayton Moore is improving this team, and in my opinion it's a matter of time before KC is contending for the playoffs.

Re: 1st half Royals review

So they do have pitching?

After looking at the stats, it looks like Bannister and Meche are the top starters.

How's the closer situation in KC?

Octavio Dotel got injured early in the season, but since then he has came back and actually has done a decent job at closing out games. He does have 2 blown saves since coming back, but he is 8 out of 10 in save chances.

Re: 1st half Royals review

I think they will be a force in baseball soon enough. These things run in cycles unless you are the Devil Rays. Just a few years ago the Brewers were a joke.

They are going to need some pitching. Their staff does not make any team fear them, and they don't really have any prospects in the minors that I know. They have a kid that is pitching well in A ball, Hardy, with a sub 2.00 ERA, but tops out around 85 MPH. Big league hitters will light him up. They need to make a few trades to get some young arms. They could send Dotel away because they have, I think, one of the best young closers in the sport, Joakim Soria. He filled in when Dotel was hurt

I hope you're right Mike 24. This is a historic franchise with a beautiful park. I even have a Royals cap. I would really like to see them do well.
