Royals and Gil Meche

In what Ken Rosenthal refers to as a 'stunner', the Royals are about to sign RHP Gil Meche. Prior the thought was he'd go to the Cubs or Blue Jays for four years and $10 million per. The Royals appear ready to offer a four year deal for $45 million.

Does Meche really want to go to Kansas City...a place with absolutely no chance to win? For an extra five million?

EDIT::: ESPN is now reporting Meche will sign a five-year deal with the Royals.

This market is just insane!

Whatever the reason, it's good seeing KC spend some money for a change.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports thinks this was a terrible signing: "If the Royals were going to give out that amount of years and dollars, why didn't they just go after A.J. Burnett last season? In Meche, they get a sinkerballer who spent time in the minor leagues two years ago and has found minimal success at the big-league level." What do you think?
