Re: Royals lose #1 overall pick

Thought this was a funny story, courtesy of the Associated Press.

Quote:
With just one loss in their season-ending three-game series at Detroit, they would get whomever they wanted in next June’s draft. Everybody else would have to wait on them.

But the Royals, major league baseball’s losingest organization this millenium, found a way to squander deficits of 0-5 on Saturday and 0-6 on Sunday. They had so much to gain by losing, but they won. A three-game sweep of the frustrated Tigers left them 62-100, one ahead of Tampa Bay, and now the Devil Rays get to pick No. 1 in next summer’s draft, and the Royals must choose No. 2.
So they had a shot at the #1 pick, and all they had to do was what they do best - lose. But they wound up sweeping the Tigers and now they have to pick #2 overall. See, K.C. can't even get losing right!

It is just a sad and depressing organization, Lefty Noob.

Re: Royals lose #1 overall pick

It's not like KC would have had the pick of the litter at #1, remember Scott Boras is always lurking around.

Re: Royals lose #1 overall pick

I believe that what the Royals did in the last weekend of the regular season was a remarkable accomplishment and a tribute to Buddy Bell's ability to keep the team together through the very worst of times. What many of us forget is that the Tigers had absolutely embarrassed the Royals the previous weekend in their home ballpark, humiliating them with some incredible offense. Well, the old adage has it that "you can say anything you want to me, however critical, but it's how you make me feel that really counts." The Tigers made the Royals feel like decomposing chopped liver, and they weren't about to forget. So, when their chance for a payback came around, they weren't going to go belly-up, no matter what it would cost them. We all know how that turned out. What the Royals did was a tribute to the human spirit, and I have to believe it will pay big dividends to them next season in terms of their team self-confidence and tenacity. With regard to the draft, how much difference is there between a first and second choice? Not all that much, in my opinion.

Re: Royals lose #1 overall pick

Most picks in the MLB draft are busts lol. It's so rare for a player to make it to the majors. But don't underestimate the factor of money.

The Royals should still get a tremendous player and perhaps one who could surge through their system.
