Chiefs cut Casey Printers

The Kansas City Chiefs yesterday cut QB Casey Printers, who was expected to be the teams #3 quarterback.

So, remind me again why the traded Trent Green? Wasn't it so that they could start Huard and keep both Printers and Brodie Croyle on the roster?

Re: Chiefs cut Casey Printers

I'm as confused as the next person on this one. Printers looks like one of the better quarterback during pre-season for the chiefs and they cut him. Hopefully he can find work somewhere else.

Cool Re: Chiefs cut Casey Printers

I think it was a salary cap issue.

He couldn't have been making too much, at least, I wouldn't think. And seeing as how he hasn't signed with anyone, I wonder...

Re: Chiefs cut Casey Printers

Look like he is going to sign in the CFL. The Chiefs offered him a practice roster spot which he turned down. I guess there wasn't anything other then a PR spot offered from another NFL team. A player on the PR roster for an NFL team gets around $100 000 a year, his contract with the chiefs was around $425 000 a year (if he was on the active roster). A few CFL teams have made an offer but if look like he will sign in Hamilton for in between $450 000-$500 000 a season. He may return to the NFL but if he can make more in the CFL then in the NFL and start I'm sure if feels the decision is a no-brainer. Although the possibility for more money in the NFL is always there.

Yeah, it's the right move for him. At the same time, I'm stunned that Printers can't find a job in a league where teams have just signed, among others, Jeff George, Josh Booty and Vinnie Testaverde. That just blows my mind.

Re: Chiefs cut Casey Printers

He signed for $500 000 a season which makes him the highest paid player in the CFL just ahead of Dave Dickenson (around $450 000) which was in the same situation as Printers; had the talent but just didn't make the roster for whatever reason.

What a shame that the NFL would rather recycle old, broken down QBs than give guys like this a chance.
