Trent Green injured

Kansas City QB Trent Green was knocked out of today's game against the Cincinnati Bengals in the third quarter. He was absolutely basted by this kid Geathers of Cincy, and his head literally crashed against the turf. Wicked hit. No update on his condition yet.

Re: Trent Green injured

CBS announcers just updated that Green has feeling in his arms and legs, but no memory of what happened. Doesn't surprise me - that was a nasty hit, borderline dirty. If you missed it, make sure you catch the replay on one of the highlight shows somewhere. It looks like Geathers could've been blocked from behind, but man, Green was sliding when he got whalloped. I think I would've thrown the flag.

Too hard of a tackle? You can't stop those hungry defenders! I don't think he had to go that hard on him but I don't think he really cared.

Take your time recovering from the injury, Trent.

I'd expect him to be out for at least the week.

Re: Trent Green injured

Well, its not just that the hit was hard - it was that Green was sliding, giving himself up. Defenders by NFL rule aren't supposed to lay into a QB who is doing one of those slides. I'm really surprised no flag was thrown.

Re: Trent Green injured

Is there an official rule against it, Lefty Noob?

The defender will claim that he didn't know that the QB was in the middle of a slide.

Re: Trent Green injured

the explaination at the time was that the defender was pushed

if true, to his credit it was mostly a glancing blow, i dont believe he was leading with his head

recovery update: i just heard on the MNF broadcast Green is doing well but will most likely miss the next 2 games

Yep, there is. Like simon says, the excuse is that there was an offensive blocker who pushed him from behind, ever so lightly, and that Geathers committed to the tackle before Green began his slide. That's why its being labeled clean, although there is talk the league may still fine him.

Defenders are so much bigger that the injuries are worse...

I remember Roger Staubach getting his bell rung against the Rams in the 1973 playoffs...playing in a fog and still winning...and then getting it rung again against the Redskin in the famous Clint Longley Thanksgiving Day win in 1974...

Staubach weighed less than 200 lbs during his playing days, but most linemen topped out at 245-250...now these monsters go way past that weight...so you got about 500 lbs during any given collision...so they get hurt worse.

Re: Trent Green injured

Green, who missed the last Chiefs game, will also be out Sunday vs. San Francisco, according to AP reports. Once again, Damon Huard, who went 29-of-43 for 273 yards and a TD in a 9-6 loss to Denver on the 17th, will get the start. How much longer will Green be out, do you think, and can the team win with Huard under center?

Re: Trent Green injured

The Chiefs can win if they hand the ball off to Larry Johnson on every play.

They can win with Brodie Croyle under center.

I was just gonna say this Huard guy is doing pretty well so there's no real emergency as of yet. I think Trent Green was past his prime anyway.
