Jags exec laughs off Gatorade dousing
Indianapolis Star, IN - 15 hours ago
A steady rain drenched the Indianapolis Colts' sideline during the Super Bowl Sunday, but it was a bystander - Dan Edwards - who got the Gatorade shower.

A Gatorade shower comes down on the head of Dan Edwards (completely hidden by orange liquid) as Tony Dungy laughs at right. The players carrying the containers hit Dungy with an earlier water bath, but missed with this sports drink bath. - Robert Scheer / The Star

The 48-year-old Jacksonville Jaguars' executive - who was working the game on the behalf of the NFL - was standing just behind Colts' Coach Tony Dungy during the final minute of the Colts' 29-17 victory over the Bears.

A couple of Colts players doused Dungy with a white bucket of ice water. But then center Jeff Saturday and tackle Tarik Glenn whiffed as they tried to dump a second bucket onto Dungy. Instead, the sweet sticky orange sports drink cascaded onto Edwards, who was wearing a business suit. He seemed to momentarily disappear into the liquid.

Edwards said today that he's seen a video replay of the soaking - the kind of moment sure to work its way to a website like YouTube. Several friends in the media who know him have called to give him a ribbing. Newsday appears to be the first media outlet to identify him. Asked today by The Star if he saw his soaking coming, Edwards replied: "Obviously not. And they had really bad aim."

Ha ha! Funny story. Guess he's what they call "collateral damage," eh?
