| Re: Jaguars need to fix offense Neither has the presence of a high-powered offense.
Jacksonville doesn't need to become the old St. Louis Rams, or the current Indianapolis Colts for that matter. But the Jaguars need to do better than 2006, when they ranked No. 24 in passing offense.
Here is a look at some of the issues facing the Jaguars as they head toward the 2007 season: Pick a quarterback, but not just any quarterback
The Jaguars have got a real mess on their hands. Byron Leftwich was benched after six games. The reason given at the time was a nagging ankle injury, for which he later underwent minor surgery. However, rumors persist the former first-round draft pick fell out of favor with Del Rio.
David Garrard finished the season at quarterback for Jacksonville, but after getting off to a fast start, he fell apart down the stretch. Granted, he doesn't have a lot of experience, but this isn't a team that can afford another season of growing pains.
There is no point in keeping Leftwich around -- especially at $5.2 million -- if he's not going to be the starter. But the Jaguars had better be convinced Garrard, or even third-stringer Quinn Gray, can get the job done if they're going to make a move.
The best option would be to bring in a veteran who can provide some stability. And don't dismiss the idea of taking another quarterback in the draft. If it was me...I'd go with Leftwich |
