| Iowa State fires coaching staff No one else probably cares, but it's all the talk around here right now so I thought I would share and see if anyone else knew anything more. Iowa State fired their basketball coach and his staff because "his direction with the program was not consistant with the goals of the athletic department". Of course, that is a bunch of hot air, but what was the real reason? They didn't make the tournament this year would be the obvious answer, but there are rumblings of something more sinister behind the scenes. Rumor has it that the program will be suspended for the next few seasons. Apparently the coach paid off another team to lose...or so the gossip goes. Anyone have a clue as to if this is true or not?

| Re: Iowa State fires coaching staff Thanks, Pundit. Funny how the gossip mill gets things slightly messed up. My in-laws are ISU alumni with season tickets to all of the sports teams, so I had heard (3rd or 4th hand) a slightly different version. Greg McDermott (UNI coach) and the coach from Wisconsin Milwaukee have already been interviewed for the position, with them leaning toward McDermott (which has U of Iowa fans in an uproar--McDermott is their "chosen one" to replace Alford). If sanctions are going to be placed on the school for this scandal, I doubt either of them will accept the job. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. |
