| Spring Practice offers new Start for Hawkeye Football Team The start of spring football practice Wednesday thankfully means that we can shift our focus to the Iowa players who aren't breaking the law. Yeah, right. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz will address the media Wednesday and he almost certainly will be asked to comment on the disturbing fact that 14 of his players have been arrested since the end of last year's spring practice. There really isn't anything more Ferentz can say or do at this point. He already has booted five players off the team since the start of last season -- the most recent being quarterback Arvell Nelson and receiver James Cleveland following their arrests on drug charges in February. Ferentz has expressed his anger, his disappointment, his concern and his embarrassment umpteen times to the media since the arrests started, and we can only imagine what he has said to his players in private. hawk central | Hawkeye Football
