The question came relatively early during Kirk Ferentz's postgame press conference Saturday.

Uh coach, would you consider changing quarterbacks?

"I've really not thought about it," Iowa's coach said after another bad showing by the offense resulted in a 31-6 loss against Purdue.

The Hawkeyes enter Saturday's 11 a.m. home game against Michigan State averaging 306.7 yards a game, the fourth-lowest total since Ferentz came to Iowa.

First-season starter Jake Christensen, a sophomore, is the trigger to a passing offense that produces an average of 190.4 yards a game, second-worst under Ferentz.

The rushing average of 116.0 yards a game is fourth worst since Ferentz replaced Hayden Fry in 1999, but this statistic is misleading because it includes yards lost due to Christensen being sacked 32 times.

"If it was easy to put (blame) on one guy," Ferentz said of the quarterback situation, "we would have done that. It's a lot more complex."

It's complex because receivers Ferentz hoped would contribute haven't - Andy Brodell is out for the season with a torn hamstring, tight end Tony Moeaki hasn't played since dislocating an elbow against Wisconsin Sept. 22, and Dominique Douglas and Anthony Bowman have been suspended since August.
