| Ferentz upset with newspapers He didn't go Gundy. He didn't name names or newspapers. He didn't even raise his voice. But Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz went beyond his typical news conference routine Tuesday by spending the first eight minutes of his opening statement to critique the media, specifically two stories written during the week following Iowa's 27-7 loss to Penn State. Without shouting or storming off like Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy did last month in response to a column that criticized one of his players, Ferentz made it clear that he was aggravated by pieces that appeared in the Press-Citizen and The Des Moines Register. Ferentz questioned the motives behind a story in the Register last week when former Iowa quarterback Drew Tate was quoted on an assortment of topics, including the team's offensive scheme and the unwillingness of younger players to follow upperclassmen last year.
