After the Iowa football team defeated Northern Illinois 16-3 in the season opener, some buffoon wrote a column praising the offensive line and suggested that it could be a pleasant surprise this season.
Sorry, Iowa fans, because I was horribly mistaken.
I failed to consider just how bad Northern Illinois could be this season. Now we know. The Huskies are terrible, as Saturday's 16-15 loss to hapless Temple showed.
I got carried away with the circumstances and assumed that Kirk Ferentz's offensive line expertise would help this group become a respectable unit.
But there was nothing to respect about the performance of the offensive line during Saturday's 27-7 loss at Penn State.
The same group that pretty much had its way with Northern Illinois looked overmatched against a Penn State defensive line that leaves something to be desired.
