University of Iowa assistant men's track and field coach Scott Cappos has been named Men's Midwest Region Throws Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Cappos is in his 11th season as Iowa's men's throws coach. During his tenure, the Hawkeyes have crowned 10 all-Americans and 14 Big Ten champions in the throws. Iowa has also had at least one all-American in the throws five of the last seven seasons. Since the creation of the outdoor regional qualification system in 2003, 40 Hawkeye throwers qualified for the chance to advance to the NCAA Championships and 12 earned all-region honors.
"We are glad that the coaches association has recognized what we've known all along - that Coach Cappos is one of the best in the nation in his events," said Iowa Head Men's Track and Cross Country Coach Larry Wieczorek. "Due to his presence, our throws program consistently produces top competitors in both the Big Ten Conference and the nation."
