Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Greek National Team

ATHENS, GREECE - - The Iowa women's basketball team dropped an 80-60 exhibition game to the Greek National Team in front of approximately 300 fans Sunday night in Athens, Greece. The contest is one of three exhibitions against Greece on the Hawkeyes' 11-day foreign tour.
Kristi Smith scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half to lead all Hawkeye scorers. She also had five assists and three steals. Wendy Ausdemore tallied 15 points and four rebounds, while Megan Skouby added eight points and six rebounds. Jenee Graham, Iowa's leading rebounder last season, pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

"Tonight was a good experience for our basketball team," said Smith. "We played a veteran and talented basketball team. We struggled with our shots and rebounding in the first half, but played much better in the second half," said Smith.

Greece took advantage of a 6:20 Hawkeye scoring drought in the first quarter, scoring 12-straight points to take a early 17-10 advantage and had a 19-12 lead after the first period.

Sophomore transfer JoAnn Hamlin, who played her first game for the Black and Gold, was plagued with foul trouble in the first stanza. The native of Douglass, KS, was whistled for three fouls in three minutes of the contest. Hamlin played a majority of the second half, netting nine of her 11 points in the second half.

"I came out playing physical defense on the ball and I thought the referees were going to let fouls slide, they didn't, but I was able to calm down in the second half and back into the groove of things. We're looking forward to playing this team two more times."

Greece Tops Iowa in Second Exhibition Contest

ATHENS, GREECE - - The Iowa women's basketball team lost to the Greek National Team 81-55 Tuesday night. The contest was one of three exhibitions against Greece on the Hawkeyes' 11-day foreign tour.

Iowa had a trio of players post double figures for the second consecutive game. Wendy Ausdemore and JoAnn Hamlin each scored 12 points, while Megan Skouby netted 10. Ausdemore tallied 10 of her 12 points in the first stanza. Hamlin had a great game tonight, missing only two shots from the floor (6-8). The native of Douglass, KS, was only one rebound shy of a double-double, as she cleared nine boards and also collected five assists and two steals. Jenee Graham tallied six points, four assists and three steals, while Lindsey Nyenhuis had four rebounds and three steals.

The score was not indicative of how much better Iowa played from the previous contest against Greek National Team. Greece made five of its first six 3-pointers and shot 59 percent from the field for the game. The Hawkeyes played most of the game in zone and forced Greece to shoot outside jump shots, which it was able to convert.

Re: Greece Tops Iowa in Second Exhibition Contest

Ouch, Iowa lost the first game by 20 and the second by 26. Not good. Can they rebound to take the third?

Greece Defeats Hawkeyes in Final Exhibition

VOULIAGMENI, GREECE - - The Iowa women's basketball team lost to the Greek National Team, 68-53, Thursday night. The contest was the last of three exhibitions against Greece on the Hawkeyes' 11-day foreign tour.
Junior Megan Skouby was Iowa's only player in double figures in defeat. The native of Mentor, OH, scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half. Senior Jenee Graham collected a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with four assists and three points. Sophomore point guard Kristi Smith only had five points, but dished out seven assists and had four rebounds. Junior Lindsey Nyenhuis provided a spark off the bench, draining two second-half 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

The 68 points Iowa yielded tonight was the fewest Greece scored in the three games, which pleased Head Coach Lisa Bluder.

"I feel like we got better every game," said Bluder. "Our first game was a little tough adjusting to all the different rules and their physical style of play. I'm really proud of the team in the way they improved every single game. The last two games our rebounding was much better and I thought we matched their intensity and our defense improved.
