The University of Iowa Hawkeyes fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 7-6, Tuesday night at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, NE. Iowa's record moves to 13-10, while Nebraksa improves to 20-12.
Trailing 7-3 in the final inning, Iowa made a furious comeback, scoring three runs to cut the lead to 7-6 and getting the bases loaded with one out before Nebraska was able to get the final outs and end the game. T.J. Cataldo led off with a pinch-hit walk, then moved to third on a Jason White double after a Ryan Gryzwa strikeout. A wild pitch plated Cataldo and moved White to third. Travis Sweet then walked, and White scored on a second wild pitch. Dusty Napoleon picked up Iowa's third walk of the inning, and Caleb Curry followed that with a single to load the bases with one out. Wes Freie struck out, but Kyle Riffel drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 7-6. It was all the Hawkeyes could muster, however, as Kevin Hoef fouled out to first base to end the game.
White ended the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Curry and Hoef each added a pair of hits for Iowa.
