2007 NCAA Wrestling Championships

The NCAA released brackets for the upcoming 2007 NCAA Wrestling Championships Monday evening. Five of Iowa's eight qualifiers earned individual seeds... Junior Mark Perry (165) earned Iowa's highest individual seed at second, senior Eric Luedke (174) and sophomore Charlie Falck (125) are seeded fifth, junior Alex Tsirtsis (141) is seeded sixth and junior Matt Fields (Hwt.) is seeded seventh. Senior Mario Galanakis (133) and redshirt freshmen Ryan Morningstar (157) and Phillip Keddy (184) did not earn seeds.

Perry Earns No. 2 Seed

Wrestling's such a big deal in Iowa... wonder if the Hawkeyes have anyone who could win a national title.

Hawkeyes In Fifth After NCAA First Day

The Hawkeyes went 5-3 in the NCAA Championships second round, advancing three to Friday morning's quarterfinals. Iowa is in fifth place with 20 points and all eight qualifiers still competing. Minnesota leads the team race with 34, and seven quarterfinalists. Attendance for the first day was 27,891.

Sophomore Charlie Falck (125), junior Mark Perry (165) and senior Eric Luedke (174) all advanced to Friday's quarterfinals, while senior Mario Galanakis (133) and juniors Alex Tsirtsis (141) and Matt Fields (Hwt) dropped down the to the consolation bracket. Redshirt freshman Ryan Morningstar (157) and Phillip Keddy (184) scored wins in the consolation bracket to stay alive in the tournament.
