| Hawkeyes softball Buzz Classic Woodstock, GA - The University of Iowa split the opening day of the Buzz Classic Friday. Iowa defeated Gardner-Webb, 5-3, but lost to Boston, 7-5. Junior Emily Nichols finished the day 4-6 with four RBI and increased her hitting streak to 15 games. Iowa scored three of its five runs in the first inning to take an early lead in game one. Sophomore Erin Riemersma started the frame with a walk and took second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Jenna Spratt. Nichols followed with an RBI double for a 1-0 lead. After junior Summer Downs reached on a fielder's choice and sophomore Colleen McGlaughin drew a walk to load the bases, junior Stephanie Ackerson hit a two-RBI double for the early 3-0 advantage. McGlaughlin gave Iowa a 5-0 lead in the third when she blasted her first home run of the season. The long ball scored Nichols, who led off the inning with a double. | Hawkeyes Win Two At Buzz Classic Woodstock, GA - The University of Iowa softball team defeated Dartmouth (1-0) and Georgia Southern (2-0) Saturday at the Buzz Classic. The Hawkeyes used two great pitching performances to seal the victories. In game one, junior Stephanie Ackerson threw a complete game one-hitter and tallied a career-high 10 strikeouts against Dartmouth. Ackerson retired 15 of the next 16 batters after giving up the lone hit in the second inning and struck out the side to end the game. Junior Emily Nichols scored Iowa's lone run of the contest in the fourth inning when she started the frame with her fifth home run of the season. She finished game one 2-3 at the plate. | Hawkeyes Finish Runner-Up In Silver Bracket At Buzz Classic Woodstock, GA - The University of Iowa softball team finished runner-up in the silver bracket at the 2007 Buzz Classic Sunday. Iowa defeated Troy, 10-2 in six innings, but fell to No. 24 Georgia Tech, 6-0 in the championship game of the bracket. Junior Emily Nichols tallied a hit in both games and is now on a 19-game hitting streak. Georgia Tech took advantage of three Hawkeye errors to claim the silver bracket championship. The Yellow Jackets took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning with a pair of RBI singles, and increased its lead to 5-0 in the fourth with a three-run home run by Caitlin Lever.
