Ackerson No-Hits Howard in Season Opener
Junior Stephanie Ackerson took full advantage of her first career start in the circle, tossing a five-inning no-hitter in Iowa's season opener against Howard. The Clive, IA, native allowed only four Howard baserunners and struck out five.

Should a 5 inning no-hitter really be a no-hitter in the record books?

That'd count even in the major leagues, would it not? I mean, I know it can't mercy rule, but in case of rain, a game that goes 5 or 5 1/2 innings is official, I believe. But this isn't MLB, it's college and it's softball, so there's no doubt... yes, it's an official no-hitter. Heck, it might actually be harder to toss five no-hit innings with a softball than it is to toss nine with a baseball, give the relative sizes and speeds of the ball in question.
