Iowa Hawkeyes Alamo Bowl

Kirk Ferentz remembers the Alamo and the domed stadium that stands nearby, and they are pleasant memories. It was in that stadium in 2001 that he won his first bowl game as Iowa's head football coach... The upset victory over Texas Tech also gave Ferentz his first winning season at Iowa, and launched his Hawkeyes on a four-year run of January Bowl games in Florida that will end this season when he and his team return to the Alamo Bowl.

Sorry if I'm out of the loop, but any word on who Iowa's going to play in the Alamo Bowl yet?

Re: Iowa Hawkeyes Alamo Bowl

Okay, so the Alamo Bowl will be played in San Antonio on December 30 at $;30 pm. The game will be televised on ESPN, and their opponent will be announced later tonight, but it will be a Big 12 school. Any thoughts on which one it might be?

Alamo Bowl Countdown: Drew Tate

Drew Tate, Iowa's senior quarterback and one of a handful of native Texans anxious for the opportunity to play the game of football again in the Lone Star State, says he likens the Longhorn defensive unit to the one the Hawkeyes faced in Ann Arbor, Mich., in late October.

"They have great size and strength in the box and great speed on the outside," Iowa's veteran field general said of the defending national champions. "It's going to be tough, but we'll just have to excecute and do what we do best."

Re: Iowa Hawkeyes Alamo Bowl

What do you guys think? Can Tate lead the Hawkeyes to a victory over the Longhorns? My gut says no.

Alamo Bowl: A Little Tate, A Little Young

Drew Tate will play his final college football game Saturday when Iowa squares off against Texas in the 2006 Alamo Bowl. The fact that it's his first college game in his home state has him pumped for a big performance.

What a huge start for the Hawkeyes -- up 14-0 on the Longhorns in the first quarter!

Hawkeyes Fall Short In Alamo Bowl, 26-24

Drew Tate's 274 passing yards along with Andy Brodell's Alamo Bowl record and career-high 159 receiving yards weren't enough as Texas squeaked by Iowa, 26-24 in the 2006 Alamo Bowl.

It was a loss, but I sure came away impressed with how Iowa played. Especially that kid Brodell - what an underrated receiver!

Interesting footnote to the Alamo Bowl. Guess there was a lot of interest in this one, eh?
