Smile Introduction/Earnit3

My name is Voss Purkey from Anderson, IN I'm old school NASCAR and a passionate believer that Toyota does not belong. The Waltrips are traitors to their country and to those who lost their lives during WW2, and to those who are losing their jobs as the Japs continue their plan to destroy our economy from within.

My favorite college football team is Notre Dame, men's basketball is IU, women's basketball the Lady Vols and Purdue, pro basketball the Pacers and pro football the Colts. HS basketball, the fantastic Anderson Indians and all teams that play in the North Central Conference in Indiana.

My pet peeve: parochical and private schools that cheat by recruiting payers because they have no boundaries, but Lawrence North in Indianapolis is just as guilty. It would be interesting to know how many of their players on the team today were within 500 miles of LN when they were 8th. graders. Their shortest starter is 6'5" on up to 6'10" and they just graduated two starters to the best team in the nation, Ohio State.

My favorite NASCAR driver: Dale Earnhardt
I don't like what NASCAR is doing to our sport, they are try ing to make our drivers look like the pretty boys from Gran Prix.

My pick for the greatest overall race driver would be Mario Andretti. He won Daytona,Indy and LeMans and could race anything including go carts.

My favorite race: The Little 500 at Anderson Speedway the night before the Indy 500. 33 high powered sprint cars on the fastest quarter mile track in the world. They start almost nose to tail and are on top of each other before th first lap is over. Most of the top 500 drivers got their start here as well as Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.

My pick for the greatest college basketball team would be the 74-75 IU team. Second best would be the IU 75-76 team which was undefeated in the Big Ten for the second straight year and went on to win the national title. I'm sure that there are many UCLA and NC fans who won't agree, but thats what this forum is all about.

Re: Introduction/Earnit3

Hi Voss, thanks for the additional details

I've been to Anderson many time. Community Hospital used to be my client at an old job. Some of the nicest & smartest people I've ever met were there.

Talk about holding a grudge there buddy...

I suppose the Brits can look at us as traitors for a little thing called the Revolutionary War...the nerve of this upstart country of ours breaking things off with the Mother land...

Couldn't we just go about producing a better race car to stop this economic destruction?...it's a free market economy thing..."Build it and they will come."

Welcome aboard Earnit3

(note to Admin: yes Ross...I can see you from here...I am not discussing politics per say...just long grudges and the quality of a good car... )

Re: Introduction/Earnit3

If the US felt wrongly about Toyota and Japanese products, they would've placed a quote or embargo act on their imports.

Also, our economy is not considered a free-market, due to government regulations.

And, rmjvol, I am not discussing politics but explaining politics.

Re: Introduction/Earnit3

Ours may not be a free market, nobody's is, but it is a FAIR market. We don't subsidize our exports with a VATS tax so that they can be sold cheaper in other markets than at home, then expect that country to defend their oil and mineral supplies so that they can continue production. There is a separation of government and industry in our country that does not exist in Japan. I'm not explaining economics, I teach it, as well as World History which apparently a lot of people need to study. What I have really have been trying to say is that all I expect is for NASCAR to live up to their agreement that there will be NO, NONE, NADA, NYET,NEIN, foreign MANUFACTURERS, no matter where they build their cars in their races. Bill France, Lee Petty, the Lorenzens, the Flocks, Fireball Roberts and Dale Earnhardt must be turning over in their graves about now. No matter what those of us who oppose this say, it will not change NASCAR'S greed. So if I have offended anyone I apologize. You enjoy next season, as for me and my house we won't be watching and I don't think I will be alone in that action. Ka Sa Ra!!!

Re: Introduction/Earnit3

Hi Voss and welcome to the greatest sports forum on the internet. I must tell you that your views on NASCAR match quite a few of those on the NASCAR Forum right here on GTG. I CERTAINLY hope you find your way to our forum and express your views. With the racing season done for this year we are a bit quiet right now but a new voice in our midst wouldn't hurt us at all. We also have a lot of loyal #3 fans so you won't be alone in that area either.

Again welcome to the forums and I hope to see you on our boards.

My friend, there is a world of difference between teaching world history and economics and having a biased opinion on the subjects... I thought that teaching imparts not so much the presentation of a biased view, but more the presentation of facts and a facilitation of a student's ability to digest the facts and form their own opinion…or in other words…present facts and help them think for themselves...

For example, why is it Japan's fault that we don't change our current laws? Which we can (should we choose to)....And what does a grudge on the 2nd World War have to do with current economic policies?…or a lack of balance in trade relations?...and should our suspension of the constitutional right of American citizens that were of Japanese origin entitle them (Japanese-Americans) to hold a grudge back against us?...should the non military people of main land Japan hold a grudge over the use of nuclear weapons to bring the war to a quicker end?...add to it that to the victors belongs the writing of the history books, and you have a lot gray areas in history…not a sweeping black and white view that fits nicely into an opinion on economic trade balance...

...So we have a Fair Market (which is great…though lets speak to Mr. Bill Gates about the definition of "Fair Market")...but if you start to shut someone else out of it, that would render it what?...a Semi-Fair Market Economy?...Now that has a real American ring to it...
Having said that, if what we are really discussing is a perceived broken NASCAR agreement and your wishes to boycott the season…well, that's a horse of a different color…

By the same token you could be calling on American motor companies to channel more money into R&D of race cars in an effort to keep up with their foreign counterparts…etc…There are many theories that make an economy go round...

BTW, no offense taken…just not of the view as to blame any short comings of an economic policy, or a NASCAR agreement, on a nation that waged war on us some 60 plus years ago.
