Go Bama!!!!

I don't know about everyone else, but I am extremely worried about the new coach for Bama Football. I sure hope they find someone with the experience and drive to bring the program back up to snuff.

I did not have any doubt in my mind that it was past time (3 Years worth) for Mike Schula to go. He may be a nice guy, but a college football he's not.

Would love to hear everyone else's thoughts about this.

Re: Go Bama!!!!

Thanks for the reply Gotham Dark Knight!

I think there are lots of things that make a good coach:
1. They are a person with a winning attitude, but instills in their players that although winning is the goal, you cannot win all the time. Sportsmanship is the important factor here.
2. Do not do the same thing over and over again as Mike Schula did. It is discouraging for the players, and makes you too "predictable" for your opponents.
3. Teach your players that team rules apply to everyone, and that your playing ability does not grant you an exemption.
4. Insure that your players understand that although winning is the goal, the most important goal is for them to get their education and be a morally straight person.

There are many others, but these are the most important ones as I see it.

Again thanks for the reply. Would love to hear your opinions and ideas.

Re: Go Bama!!!!

Greetings, RBS615
I agree with your comment about Shula being too predictable. "What shall we call? Oh yeah, the old standby. Run Darby up the middle" Lets face it, a pee wee D could read that play

Re: Go Bama!!!!

I think I understood what Shula was trying to accomplish, and I think he could have made it happen on down the road, but when I saw that he was loosing respect from some of his players I knew it was time for him to go. Sometimes no matter how smart you think you are as a coach, you need to listen to your players.Besides, they are the ones on the field. ROLL TIDE!!!

hello rbs615

Welcome to our forum. My name is Scott and I am the Alabama moderator.I look forward to reading more of your posts and hope that you find good info and good chats to get involved in.

As far as Saban being Bama's new coach, I do feel that he is a very good fit for our team. He has an all star cast of assistants and is as tough on players to graduate as he is on football. I do think it will take 2-3 years to get all of his systems implemented and understood by all of the players, saying that I think the Tide will be a much better team this year. Feel free to send me a PM (private message) if you have questions or if I can assist you in any way.
