Transplanted Tide Fan

Hi ya'll! I'm a lifetime Crimson Tide fan that grew up in Alabama but currently live in northern Virginia.

I found this site looking for information about Mike Shula; however, I am also a huge NASCAR fan and have a husband who is an avid Miami Dolphins fan.

I'm looking forward to seeing the different viewpoints and perspectives that appear here and to being able to share some of my opinions. Thanks for the opportunity!

ROLL TIDE!!!

Hi SunRae,

Welcome to GoTeamsGo

Even after the season is over, we've got a very active NASCAR forum. Hope you'll join in the chat there. Our Dolphins Forum is fairly new but you'll find we've got many sports fans who will talk about anything with anybody.

Look forward to chatting more with you.

Re: Transplanted Tide Fan

Soriano33: Thanks for the welcome! My opinion on the coaching situation (and some of the rumours flying) is:

1) I think Mal Moore made a mistake letting Shula go - he should have been given at least one more season. Yes, it's painful thinking that we've now lost to Auburn 5 years in a row ( ); 4 of those with Shula as coach. However, we've also been on probation all 5 years (fortunately ending this February) and (even though I realize it was in the 70s) I hold on to the fond memory that we've got 9 years of dominance over them and we still have more wins overall (38-32-1). Mike Shula took the job at one of the lowest points in our history and breathed new life into our football program. Yes, this was his first job as a head coach; no, I did not agree with all of his decisions; and yes, he made mistakes. I do, though, believe he could have been great for the football team and the university. I might be wrong, but, unfortunately, he'll never get the chance to prove it one way or the other.
2) I appear to be in the minority here, but I do not like the idea Steve Spurrier coaching at Alabama. I didn't like him when he was at Florida, and I'm ambivalent about him at South Carolina.
3) I wouldn't mind seeing Nick Saban at Alabama (although it would eat my sister-in-law since she's an LSU fan and my husband alive); however, he's not going to leave Miami, especially since he's got the program on an upswing.
4) I will have to withhold comment on the other names being thrown about because I'm simply not familiar enough with them to say anything - yet.
5) One more thing...I realize that Bear is dead and that there will never be another one like him; however, I would like to see the new coach, when we find one, do one thing that he did. I would like to see the new coach bring back the time when our players our holding up 4 fingers at the end of the fourth quarter. There used to be a time when we owned the 4th quarter - and it was because of that never quit attitude that the players had. Monday night, I was watching Green Bay play against Seattle. At the end of the game, even though they had lost, I saw Brett Farve hopping (literally) mad because he wanted to get one more chance to throw the ball - I want our players instilled with that attitude.

Thanks for letting me vent...

Good stuff SunRae! I agree with you 100% Shua deserved another year at least. And as far as Steve Spurrier, as an adiment Gator fan, hes not the right guy for the Crimson Tide. Heck hes not right for South Carolina, I think he should be at Miami or Florida State if he has a chance at those jobs in the future.

Re: Transplanted Tide Fan

Thanks! Yeah, I've got to agree with you, I don't think he's right for South Carolina. I could see him at Miami, even though he's already said he's not interested in the job - but I don't think he would go to FSU. Speaking of FSU though, I'm starting to wonder how much longer Bobby's going to be around - I believe his contract ends next year. (The sportscasters seem to believe that's the reason they finally got rid of Jeff - the boosters mentioned that his staying might effect how they work out the contract.)
My great-aunt was a huge Florida fan and she thought Spurrier hung the moon. (She died awhile back.) Needless to say, we've had some interesting family gatherings...as mentioned, my great-aunt and her family are all Florida fans; my dad and mom are Alabama fans (and alumni); my uncle is an Auburn fan (and alumni); my grandparents and another uncle are Tennessee fans; and my brother and husband are FSU fans (but they still support Alabama); and my sister-in-law and her family are all LSU fans. Makes for some interesting family gatherings anyway!

Hi LSC901! Yes, I am a HUGE NASCAR fan...starting when I was a child growing up near Hueytown and the Alabama Gang, and I have recently converted my husband to a fan also. I've visited the NASCAR threads briefly, but really haven't had a chance to jump in and contribute to them - I hope to change that soon though!
