| Re: 2008 Iowa Corn Indy 250 Predictions No one picked Wheldon. Once again, the IRL race was probably the best of the weekend. Unlike last year, lots of passing. I am impressed that these drivers maneuver on a track the size of Iowa at the speeds they run. I'm going to rub some fur the wrong way here but I'm beginning to think the drivers of the IRL are some of the best race car drivers in the world! To be able to perform so well on both road, street, plus big and small ovals is something just don't see drivers in other series do. Another good run for Hadeki Mutoh. I guess that he's for real. Is it just me or does Ryan Hunter-Reay's driving style beginning to remind me of Paul Tracey? Apparently starting at the rear of the field just makes things a little more challenging for him. Either "wreckers or checkers?"

keep in mind ... while they may be "stock" car drivers now ... JG - Smoke and JPM have all been very successful in open wheel at one time or another |

The more I watch IRL the more appreciation I have for the drivers. I liked what I saw the year after they split (I always thought the CART contingent was pretentious and vastly over rated). IF Tony doesn't cave in to the owners and sponsors, or starts listening to Brian Z., and runs the ship with a firm hand, I think open wheel might be on the comeback as being a major sporting event in this country. I'm not sure how fast they were going at Iowa but to run wheel-to-wheel that fast, on a track that size, impresses the Hell out of me. |
