| Re: 2008 Indy 500 I am impressed with the pre-race. It's not entirely all Danica all the time. A good mix. (Although the beach shots of her in a thong bikini were seeing more of a race driver than I really needed to) The parade yesterday evening was well done and made me proud of my home town, plus it was good to see my high school band performing. I pray for a good, safe race this afternoon. To all 33 drivers, via con dios.

Sorry NASCAR fans. There is no auto race in the world which has more pageantry and more tradition than the Indy 500. I've seen it since 1950 and, to this day, I can't hear them play Taps without tearing up. Glad to see Jim Nabors back singing Back Home Again in Indiana. I'm glad they finally replaced Marie Hulman giving the Start Your Engines order. She was painful to watch. |

| Re: 2008 Indy 500 For the most part I agree, the pre-race was good. However, I thought the focus on danger was a bit long. It's not that it doesn't exist, but it put a "downer" on the race before it ever started. They kept the same tone with the driver interviews. The girl who sang the Anthem needs to go back and look at the music. I doubt she'll see her "mistakes", but hopefully some non-politically correct musician will point them out. And speaking of "politically correct", did I miss it or was there no reference to our armed forces... I was amazed the first caution (for debris - a mirror "falling off") ended uptaking 10 laps!!! now back to the race.

I saw several references to the military. They don't make a massive thing our of it because it is generally understood that the race itself is a tribute to the military. They flyover was good, the pre-Taps announcement was about what they always do and they showed the military marching off the track in ranks and made reference to their being introduced to the crowd and carried around the track in back of various vehicles. They were missing from the 500 Festival Parade the night before, though. Tragedy did hit my home track last night A track helper spreading oil dry after a wreck in the Little 500 was hit and killed. I just hate things like that. The Herald Bulletin - Cottle holds off Elliott to win Little 500 |
