Cool Re: Colts make progress in 1st week

Running back
Most of the attention has focused on veteran Dominic Rhodes and rookie Joseph Addai, two players being asked to make Colts fans forget Edgerrin James. Neither player has disappointed.

Rhodes is embracing his opportunity to be the No. 1 tailback. He has run with authority and a burst, and shown good hands in the passing game. Same with Addai. What's been impressive about the first-round draft pick has been his poise and apparent grasp of the complex offense. If he doesn't get it, he's hiding it well.

This is encouraging, though Edge is hard to replace. I don't really like the idea of Rohdes as the featured back. I am hoping to see the rookie get up to speed. Anyone think Rhodes is the answer?

Re: Colts make progress in 1st week

Rhodes had one really good season a few years back when he replaced Edge for 3/4 of the season.

I honestly believe that most any runningback can shine in that offense. It wasn't Edge that made Peyton Manning so good; It was Manninng who made Edge so good. Don't get me wrong, Edge is an amazing running back, but he is replaceable. Manning is the best at the play action and when you have as dangerous of a passing threat, you cannot load 8 guys into the box to focus on a run. Besides, with Harrison, Wayne, Stokely and Clark, you are forced to play lots of DB's.

As of right now, Addai and Rhodes will split time at HB. The one who will win the job is the one who can get Manning for being sacked. An extra split second for Manning means first down or TD.

I was really impressed with our kickoffs! Also the 63 yard punt return.

I think a slightly better than average back can get 1,000 yards in the Colts offense...but Edge was a clutch performer...I think Rhodes in all his glory is a poor replacement.
