Freeney wants to be the highest paid player.

Not the highest paid Defensive back, the highest paid player PERIOD! It's about half way down the article!

Re: Freeney wants to be the highest paid player.

I'll admit I couldn't believe it in your post, so I had to go straight to the source to see for myself, but sure enough there it is in black and white: "The Colts hope to sign Freeney, one of the NFL's premier defenders, to a long-term extension as well, but it has been rumored that the four-year veteran is seeking a deal that would make him the highest-paid player in the league."

The dude has lost his freakin' mind! Freeney is a good player, but if he thinks for one second he should even be the highest paid player ON HIS TEAM with Manning and Harrison around, then he's got a few screws loose. Heck, I'm not even sure he was the most valuable player on the Colts defense last season - that may have been Cato June. I'm stunned at the audacity.

I could see the Colts franchising him if they can't get him a long term deal! I hope the Colts can sign him to a long term deal.

I am with you...Manning is the head of the dragon on this team...Feeney has some ego...that's a lot of pressure he is putting on himself...I don't see him staying put long...

Re: Freeney wants to be the highest paid player.

I can't imagine a scenario where a defensive end could even deserve to be the highest paid player on ANY team, especially not one with so many great offensive players. Heck, I love what Freeney can do, but I think one could make the argument that even Vinatieri will be more vital to the Colts success this season than this pass rush specialist will be. It takes brass ones to make a demand like this, let me tell you!

Re: Freeney wants to be the highest paid player.

Freeney is one of the 3 best Defensive Ends but no one is going to deitize him as the highest paid player. The thought is ridiculous! That sounds like something Warren Sapp would say. I see Freeney is turning into yet another self important headcase so common in the NFL. If I were the Colts id make him a reasonable offer to a man of his talent and if/when he rejects it let him find another team to try to fit that desired pay under their cap. This aint baseball and theres no George Steinbrenner to swoop in and grant his insane demand. This is why I laugh when I see these greedy animals holding up children with cancer begging for donations on TV and then turn around and want enough money to feed a small country. Pro sports is beginning to sicken me. Perhaps my days as what George Carlin would call a "jock sniffer" will soon be done.
