Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

ok Manning and the Colts got thier ring ... but is that it ?

is Manning destined to finish his career in the familiar role of Patriots bridesmaid ?

i know all you Colts homers will cry foul and let me know Peyton can really get 5 more rings ...... but seriously .... will he even get one more ?

(Thomas English Muffins Brady can get 5 more)

Re: Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

Can he get more rings? Sure. A lot of it depends on what happens with his supporting cast, and the league is unpredictable. But as the Colts team is built as of right now, they're going to be contenders every year. There are no guarantees - Brady could tear is ACL in Week 1 next year. Or Manning could. But in terms of odds, if healthy, I do like Indy's chances.

Re: Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

With the current team, I think they better do it next year, or they may have some rebuilding. Wayne is good, but he isn't Harrison. It looked like Manning missed his go to guy at times. Gonzalez found how to play the last few weeks, but it is a dropoff with him and Wayne from when it was Harrison, Wayne, and Stokely.

Re: Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

Will Manning get another ring or is he a fluke?
Well, lets see. In his second year he set franchise records for 331 completions and 4135 passing yards.
He has the most consecutive seasons with over 4000 passing yards and most seasons with 4000 yards or more passing in career.
He is second on the list for highest career passing rating.
8x Pro Bowl
2 times NFL MVP
Pro bowl MVP
Super Bowl MVP
There are more records and awards.

Yep, simon, Peyton is definitely a fluke and with him leading his Colts, a one shot wonder.

From what I've heard, such pride often is preceded by one heck of a fall...here's hoping that the Patriots and Brady pull a humpty dumpty and fall off that very high wall of theirs...

who knows. i guess he will "only" have one ring and be doomed to "only" being the:

all time leading passer (in yards)
all time leading passer in touchdowns
all time leader in quarterbackk wins
all time leader in yards per game (already has that one)
all time completions leader
possibly highest career passer rating ( "only" second in that one)
top 5 all time in completion % (already)
all time rookie leader in attempts, completions, touchdowns, and yards
all time leader in 4000 yard seasons (8 so far)
owner of EVERY johnny unitas record
2 time (so far) mvp

all time highest single season passer rating (121.1-even captain america..er brady couldnt do that one this year)

most games with perfect passer rating and the only one to do it in the playoffs (4 so far-brady has one-against the dolphins. one of manning's is against the patriots)

most prolific qb of all time. more yards than joe montana, johnny unitas, jim kelly, troy aikman in half the time. he'll pass bledsoe next season and moon in 2-3 and be the ALL TIME LEADING PASSER in atleast 5 seasons.

plus countless other records i dont feel like listing

funny how i dont see king brady on ANY of those lists.

yep thats all peyton manning will ever be. doomed. how can he ever live that down?

Re: Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

Yeah, I agree with Bette and Geeche... Brady could finish his career with 10 rings and Manning with one, and Peyton would STILL be the better QB.

I have to disagree somewhat. Manning would be a better passer. The better QB is the one that leads his team to championships. There is much more to the position than just throwing.

Championships matter, but they're not the only thing. Marino and Elway are both great QBs. One has rings, the other doesn't.

My point exactly. They are both great, but Elway will always be remembered as the better QB...he won super bowls. Marino will be remembered as a great passer who couldn't get it done. I don't think Elway was in Marino's league passing the ball, but Elway was the better leader on the field. That is a very important part of the job. The games against Cleveland shows just how much of a leader he is. He brought them back when the games should have been out of reach. I am not sure Marino pulls those games out.

Elway better than Marino? Not sure I'm buying into that one, az. Elway didn't win one till they got a great running game, so...

My memory may be a little fuzzy this morning, but didn't he also lead the Broncos to 2 superbowls before he won any. He carried those teams there without great running. Marino went once his rookie season, and never sniffed them again. I just think Elway is better in the big games, and Marino just a great passer.

Re: Are the Colts a one hit wonder ?

it takes more than a qb to win a superbowl.

"offense sells tickets-defense wins championships". i know my fellow sports nuts heard that before. it is SO true. dont matter if you score 100 points, the other team will score 101. doesnt matter who your receiving core is if you have no o-line. doesnt matter who the players are if you dont have the right coaching. so please america, can we stop brown nosing brady. are people really silly enough to think brady won those superbowls by himself? that he blocked those punts, caught his passes, intercepted the other qb, and kicked the game winner in all 3 superbowls. notice when brady's pocket breaks down he is just like every other qb. the only reason for all his "clutch" play and last minute heroics IS that offensive line. its easy to be calm when your line repels nukes in the off-season. and that defense ALWAYS steps up and makes a play. all brady really did was get in field goal range. and why is everybody talkin about brady's ankle? we forgetting peyton maning gettin his jaw broken during a game? then spitting i a cup and not even missin one snap? thats elway/favre like.

of course superbowls are important to pats fans since brady has no real skill set. he runs a non-conventional offense that masks his strengths and hides his weaknesses. get in a 4/5 wr set and snap outta the shotgun. throwo alotta short-to-mid range passes. and put up a long one to moss eery now and then since you really need no deep ball accuracy to toss to moss.

i never seen a better deep ball passer than peyton manning (MAYBE troy aikman). its ridiculous how accurate he is. you ever seen reggie wayne or any colts receiver have to lay out and make a circus catch? what other qb has been this prolific outta a balenced, conventional offense? but i would kinda like to see teh colts do the spread thing cuz i know brady's numbers from this year wouldnt be squat if manning lined up in the same offense
