When I said he still has a lot to prove I meant it in the context that he'd not reached his ceiling yet, and he's got a lot more left in him than just one super bowl. I'm not doubting his abilities nor his accomplishments.

And for future reference, Nuke, I don't drink. Nor does the first word in my screen name have anything to do with drinkin'
I'm not taking anything away from Manning. He is a great QB, and the stats back it up. But if he wants to be considered one of the best players the NFL has ever seen, he needs to be more consistent.

Hah. Yep. Never served, but I worked with the Marines for a year. They taught me all sorts of stuff I could never repeat on this forum

you have the right QBs Pundit........just in the wrong order
Staubach was a way better QB than Bradshaw...Bradshaw has 4 rings because of the Steel Curtain...Staubach has two (more than Marion and Favre and loss less Super Bowls than Elway)...he also won 5 passing titles..winning one his last season in...and when he retired he was the top rated passer (back when you could maul the receiver)...

Re: The Immortal MVP Peyton Manning

Manning this morning.

Quote:
“In some cases I’ve seen past quarterbacks that have won a Super Bowl - I kind of call it ‘getting the pass.’ They kind of get a pass in other years,” Manning said in a news conference this morning.
“I guess what I’m saying is, I don’t want the pass,” he said.

“I think you have to go out and earn it each and every year. This is a special year that we got it done. But once next season comes around we’ll certainly be more confident, but we’ll have to go out there and prove it again.”
I'm sure he was totally drunk when he said that.

I am equally sure that if next season Peyton Manning were to walk on water...some of you on this site would point to him and say, "Yeah, but can he fly?"...

lol, no doubt Simon would. Of course if Brady were to, then it'd be a whole different story.

Re: The Immortal MVP Peyton Manning

I don't see the problem with anyone putting Tom Brady above Peyton Manning, but it shouldn't be by anything more than a slim margin.

Manning finally got the monkey off his back, but did he really answer all the questions? I don't think anyone can deny that Manning has matured over the years, but he still has a history of playoff blunders. Not taking anything away from him because I love the guy and would have considered him great even if he hadn't been vindicated, but while the onslaught should rightfully calm, the past is still legitimate.

1a.) Tom Brady
1b.) Peyton Manning

Like I said, Manning could walk on water and you guys would find a fault...

I would be willing to bet that if you poll all the GMs around the league on which of the two QBs they rather have leading thier franchise and Manning would win over Brady hands down...

Manning has very few peers as a passer, dating back to the inception of the NFL. I am the first to admit that. However, Tom Brady is one of them. It isn't a slight on Manning by any means, but rather a testament to Brady's own ability. Trust me, when I put 1a.) Tom Brady, you must understand that 1b.) Peyton Manning is not far behind at all.

I just don't see how someone can cast away the fact that he has fallen short in big games during the course of his career carelessly.

I disagree. I think it would be fairly close. Why do you think Manning would win in a landslide?

You say he has fallen short...And I say, he (like Favre) was trying to make something happen when his team was not up to par...I rather take that type of QB over a game manager any day...not to say that Brady falls under the game manager category...but Brady is more a product of a syatem...I doubt he would be as successful away from New England, whiel I think Peyton could play anywhere...

Highly doubt it...there is a reason one went in the 1st round and one in the 6th...Brady is good no doubt, but his success is more a measure of what New England built...talent wise and the ability to call a game would fall to Manning...they are about evens up in the ability to come from behind etc...

I don't think though it would be close at all...its like when Elway was on his way to losing 3 Super Bowls...all GMs still drooled for him...

That's nice WTF but Manning has to say stuff like that to motivate his team for next year which will be a lot harder. All he said is that he won't give anything less than 110% next year and that he "doesn't want that free pass." And he said that WE have to prove. Remember that Manning IS the Colts and takes it upon himself to keep the team hungry. He didn't say he has a lot to prove before he can be considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all times because he already is one of them like it or not.

Yup. And he wants to prove that he's capable of overcoming that challenge.
