I never doubted that Manning would eventually win one. Anyone who did Gross-ly (pun intended) underestimated him. Everyone can say without a doubt that he's truly great, but I wanna see what he does from here. That will prove his level of greatness.

That's it.
You said he still has a lot to prove. I'm not a Colts fan and I don't mean to pick on you but there can be no taking back that statement unless you outright admit you are wrong which you so obviously are. Now that Manning has his ring you can put him up there with the all time greats. He holds most of the records and now he proved he can get the Superbowl won. Tons of people say Marino is the best ever and he lost one Superbowl and never got back there. I doubt Peyton Manning is gonna lose all of his quarterbacking ablilities just because he beat the Bears in the Superbowl. As I said you must have been drinking when you made the statement "he still has a lot to prove" as suggested by the first word in your screen name.

Re: The Immortal MVP Peyton Manning

I still have to say that Brady is a better QB than Manning. He wins without talent surrounding him. His passes have to be on target every time where as Mannings guys have the ability to catch just about every pass he throws up. Manning still only has one ring and Brady has 3 even though hes been in the league I believe 3 less years than manning. After all isn't the ultimate prize in football winning the superbowl? And if you have won 3 compared to 1, I think that shows something. Stats are important, but winning is more important. They are both great QBs, but if I had to pick one for my team, I'm choosing Brady.

You can be not as good as Tom Brady and still be a top 10 of all time QB. Everything you said about Brady is right (although I think Manning is better) but both belong in the same category and have nothing more to prove. Although Manning had better offensive talent around him, Brady had a far better defense and coaching scheme for that D that let him win those 3 Superbowls not that i'm taking anything away from Brady, he is amazing even if his decision making is questionable. Not on the field but dumping the lovely, leggy Bridget Moynahan??? That was a horrible decision!

Re: The Immortal MVP Peyton Manning

I'm not even thinking about Brady only because Manning will likely have all those QB stat records when it's all said and done. Brady is great but 20 years from now, people will look at the stats and think Peyton is the best QB of this generation.

Unless Brady can reel off some more Super Bowl wins

well........Brady has about 7 more good years left to go.....i dont think anyone can deny that........he has a great young RB and two 1st round draft picks this year

id say another Super Bowl win or more is far from out of the question

on the other hand.....the Colts have the last pick in the 1st round and Marvin Harrison is 34 years old

who has the better chance to win more Super Bowls ?

Re: The Immortal MVP Peyton Manning

Manning has to prove he can be consistent. He may have won the superbowl, but lets talk about how he through so many interceptions and had alot of bad games, yet the defense won for him? Peyton Manning did not win the Colts the superbowl, the defense did. Manning was very inconsistent throughout the playoffs, and needs to prove not only he can play good in the regular season, but play good in the playoffs and not have the defense back him up. Although he did play well in the Superbowl and the AFC championship game, but the defense for the most part won the superbowl for Indy. Atleast we don't have to hear the media griping about Manning and the superbowl.

Mike, I agree completely. Manning, "Mister MVP," was no better than the third most important factor in the Colts win, behind the defense (#1) and the running game (#2). Simple as that. But Manning is still a great QB, and will likely retire holding every record in the book. I firmly believe that at the end of his days, we'll be calling Peyton by Jerry Rice's old knickname, the "G.O.A.T." -- Greatest of All Time.

Yea he is a great QB, I'm not taking that away from him. But I think he needs to be more consistent if he wants to be known as one of the greatest players of all time.

More consistent?...are you mad?...the man has 9 straight years of over +26 TD, +3700 yard years...his QB rating is through the roof...he is the model of consistency...now that the Colts never had much of a D until now is another story...but over the past decade you can't get more consistent then Peyton...the man never has an off year...

Peyton Manning with this win has solidified himself as one of the greatest of all times. Be fair, if you call Farve the human INT machine one the greatest than Manning surely has to be. And as for the defense and running game winning the game yesterday (which I disagree) I still say why not? The Colts are a 9-7 team at best without him and he deserved some help. It is a team sport after all yes? Just remember a lot of people think Dan Marino is the greatest of all times and that is just based on his stats. Stats which Manning have broke or will pretty much when he hangs it up. No Superbowl Championship for Marino remember that and noone argues his greatness nor should they. Manning pressed in the playoffs that resulted in the INTS but now with this win and all the naysayers off his back (all the reasonable ones at least) Manning will relax in the playoffs and win the AFC again...but then again there is the Chargers!

Montana
Elway
Brady
Manning
Bradshaw
Farve
Marino

you have the right QBs Pundit........just in the wrong order

I can live with Simon's list. But Farve over Marino? Um, well that's my only dispute.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Nuke, man, I agree with you!

Like I said, I think he might be the best ever by the time he's done. I just don't think he was the MVP of last night's game, that's all I was trying to say. Yeah, I'd take Manning over any other QB in the league. But Rhodes was a more deserving MVP candidate, don't ya think? And if they could've, they should've given it to the entire Indy defense!

It's just that when you're the best like in my view Peyton Manning is...people always seem to talk about what he can't do. Well there's not much that he can't do folks. One day ago he won a Superbowl championship. I thought Rhodes should have gotten the MVP but I could see Manning getting it as he managed a great game and his audibles worked for the most part. Just remember guys, the Colts don't make it to the playoffs without Peyton Manning. Their defense and run game were great in the postseason but non-existent during the regular season save Addai for a bit. Runningbacks were wearing out their cleats running on the Colts D.

^Thank you.

Consistency is what distinguishes the best of the best. Yes, he has been a helluva consistent QB, but we've yet to see if he can elevate himself to a consistent champion. When I said he still has a lot to prove I meant it in the context that he'd not reached his ceiling yet, and he's got a lot more left in him than just one super bowl. I'm not doubting his abilities nor his accomplishments.

And for future reference, Nuke, I don't drink. Nor does the first word in my screen name have anything to do with drinkin'
