Cool Edgerrin James

From Stampede Blue by Big Blue Shoe:

Do you think Edge regrets leaving?
It's interesting: many felt the lose of Edgerrin James to free agency last year was the beginning of the end for the Colts. It turned out to be anything but. James was replaced by the combination of Dominic Rhodes and rookie Joseph Addai.

It seems, beyond any doubt, that the Colts simply do not miss Edgerrin James. James left because Arizona offered more guaranteed money, and because then-coach Dennis Green ran a similar practice schedule that Dungy does. Green is now gone after guiding the Cardinals to another losing season. New coach Ken Whisenhunt will supposedly have tougher practices and expect more from his high-priced RB. Meanwhile, the Colts are in the Super Bowl, and are running the football better than they ever did with Edge.

Edge felt ripped off early on by the Colts, especially after his injury...there were hard feeling there...so in some ways I doubt he regrets it...its a pride thing.

I don't buy that. Of course the guy's looking at what the Colts are doing this year and thinking, "Man, I that could've been me. I couldn've been playing for a Super Bowl ring right now." Of course, this begs the questions -- if it was Edge and not the Addai/Rhodes tandem, would Indy have even gotten there?

Now, I don't think he is gonna second guess his decision...if you ever had a job you were totally unhappy with you don't give a crap what happens after you leave...you are jsut glad to be out of the organization...now that he probably has friends there and some other ties, that's another thing...but Edge was not happy working for the man...

But it has happened to me. I've left places and saw then start to enjoy success, and found myself wondering "what if... what if I could've just gutted it out, put up with it a while longer. I could be a part of that right now." I am positive that James is most likely feeling the same way right now. Everybody has regrets and second thoughts.

You ain't Edge......he felt disrespected by the Colts...first over rthe injury...then over them offering big money to everyone including Reggie Wayne over him...

Cool Re: Edgerrin James

Edge felt "disrespected" because they didn't offer him the most money. So now that he has his money, I hope he's happy. If he's any kind of competitor which I believe he is, I have to believe he's bothered by the fact that the Colts are in the Super Bowl. Do I think he's losing sleep over it? Probably not, but he probably wishes his deal lasted one more year.

One more year at the "right amount"...he is not gonna be thinking...gee, I should have stayed for what they offered...thus I doubt he regrets any thing...

Have you Lost Your marbles Sir ?
The Edge put up at least 1500 yards every year so go sell that Crap to somebody else.
The reason he left Is because he was'nt going to get Played like those Suckers on the "Patriots"
Let me see If I got the Facts right, they give Manny, and Marvin Fat contracts and the other amigo get's a Stiff One I don't think so.
Let me guess there getting two Suckers for less than they would payed a loyal player that just wanted what was fair.
"Way to pull a Patroit on the Edge" I wonder how "Can he Manny" Would have did it with out the Edge Before this free labor scam.

Can't argue with the results. Peyton, Harrison, Addai and Rhodes are in the Super Bowl, and James can get his money, his 1,500 yards (maybe) and win six games a season for the rest of his career with Arizona. Congrats, Edge... I guess that's what you really wanted. Fred, we've been debating winners and losers elsewhere on the board. Winners do what John Elway did, taking pay cuts so the Broncos could sign their offensive linemen and eventually win the Super Bowl. Losers do what Edge did, take the money and run, playing out their career for whatever losing team will pony up the most coin. If it's NOT eating him alive that he was one more season away as a Colt from playing for the Lombardi trophy, then I wouldn't want him anywhere near my football team.

Yeaah right...never seen that as a definition of a winner and loser...Denver never treated Elway the way they treated Edge...I am sure the guy would restructure if he saw Manning, Wayne and Harrison also take one for the team...but did they...heavens no...and for that Edge is a loser?...Come on now Lefty you can't possible stand by what you jsut wrote...

Of course I can, and I do. How much money do these people need? And no way Edge was as important to this team's success as Manning and Harrison were. This year proves that. I'm sure the offer made to James was at least reasonable; it's not like the offered him league minimum or anything. So instead of taking, say, $1.2 million less to stay with a winner, he bolted for a perrennial loser and a slightly higher paycheck. How about Bettis, who last season was asked -- ala James -- to take a pay cut for the good of the team. He did, he got his ring and his storybook ending, and still had more money than any one of us would ever know how to spend. Guys like Elway and Bettis are the ones worth rooting for. This "disrespect" card is garbage unless they lowballed him immensely.

Hooey!...You have no idea what Manning, Harrison, or the rest of the league would do in the same situation...Bettis did not see his QB sign for the money that Manning did...he did not see his team invest in Reggie Wayne over him and he did not have a soar taste in his mouth over his contract when he blew out his knee years earlier...so it is not apples to apples...

As for the amount of money, what does that have to do with anything?...Get real...if you are working at McDonalds for $6 an hour and your two key co-workers got a raise to $8 an hour and you didn't...you would still feel the same...especially if Buger King was willing to give you $8 and welcome you with open arms...

Under those conditions you would label the guy a loser????...oh please...

Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter jumping to New York from a 3 time World Series Team in Oakland for more money...losers too huh?...I mean they took more money to leave a winner...

Come on man...get real...one has nothing to do with the other... and you know it

That's true. I only know what Bettis and Elway did, and to me, that's the epitome of class.

No? Quoting a 2006 article by SportsTicker editor John Pezzullo: "In 2004, Bettis took a paycut from $4.4 million to $1 million. Instead of being bitter about it like most egotistical athletes, Bettis welcomed the guy who took his job - Duce Staley - with open arms... 'The best guy in the locker room I've ever played with,' said Steelers Pro Bowl center Jeff Hartings, a 10-year veteran who also blocked for Hall of Famer Barry Sanders. 'His personality, unselfishness and humility are how the rest of the team measures itself.'" Staley, I should note, was signed to a five-year, $14 million deal with a $4 million signing bonus. So explain to me how this isn't comparing apples to apples?

Like I said, the other stars of equal value around him where not getting more...nor did Bettis, that late in his career, have the marketing value of Edge...

That aside...I still like to see you back up the argument that a "winner" does not jump from a contender for more money...class and winning have little to do with each other...
