| Re: Colts vs. Patriots - AFC Championship Game My final thoughts on what I would do before kickoff: New England Patriots - Yes, I know the defense has improved during the playoffs, but I still make it one of my goals to hammer Indianapolis in the running game with my two-pronged attack in Dillon and Maroney for two reasons. First, because I believe that I can get consistent yards on the ground. Second, because I want to keep Peyton Manning on the sidelines as much as possible. I attribute the improvement of Indianapolis' defense to a strategy called funneling. The purpose of the process is to have defenders take solid angles to the ball in order to dictate where the runner eventually goes. In this case, they want to funnel all action on safety Bob Sanders to let him clean up, especially when they enter their Cover 3 shell. So I would utilize Heath Evans more, accounting for Sanders every play and putting a hat on him. The past two weeks, their defense has been designed to limit the big play, so I am going to give Brady the ball and tell him to be patient when working the short spread. Sooner or later, my superlative short spread offense will open them up and force Bob Sanders back. I am also going to use more two tight end sets to help out with the explosive edge rushers and use the middle. I know I have one of the best redzone defenses in the NFL, so I am not going to be conservative. I am going to swamp Manning with pressure, but I will do it in a more premeditated way than their last two games. Both the Chiefs and the Ravens elected to bring pressure, but the manner in which they did it was fundamentally flawed. They brought pressure from the side they were playing off the receivers most of the time. If you do that, Manning will beat you. However, I am going to employ multiple packages of zone blitzes that Peyton has not seen on film and mask my coverage shells so Manning cannot easily get a read on them. If it works as designed, Manning will be guessing where pressure is coming from and making mistakes because of it. Indianapolis Colts - Coming into this game, I know the New England front three clearly outmatch my offensive line, so I am aware that running it down the middle for yards on a regular basis is out of the question. However, this just gives me more reason to utilize Joseph Addai and the stretch play, which he is most comfortable running. By doing this, I am looking to allow Addai to pick his holes and exploit the lack of team speed New England has. I tell Peyton Manning that Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne are going to garner a lot of attention from the Patriots, so it is vital that he take what the defense gives him. New England has had trouble with tight ends and running backs out of the backfield this year, so I want Manning to take what they are giving him and not force the issue. If the running game and underneath routes get established, single coverage shots with Wayne and Harrison will open up for him. I also want him to trust his protection and do all the little things like pump fakes and play-action sells. The cog of my gameplan is Dwight Freeney. I know that Matt Light is a liability in pass protection, so I tell him to go after Brady like a man possessed and protect his responsibilities within the scheme. I want to attack Brady like he was in San Diego, and force him to make throws he doesn't want to make. In the running game, I want to continue to funnel action to Sanders, but I would like the defenders to pursue a bit more aggressively instead of just floating to the ball carrier. I prepare for New England to expose our run defense, and tell a linebacker to engage any blockers coming for Sanders, as he is our most reliable tackler. I impliment more run stunts in the gameplan to shut down the middle, and look to make New England conquer our superior team speed on the perimeter. |

| Re: Colts vs. Patriots - AFC Championship Game And we'll call that one a lucky TD. I think we can all agree that's not the way the play was drawn up.
