Peyton's Place

It's hard not to feel sorry for Peyton. Here he is, a giant among men. A genius on the turf with NO equal. A man who's arm is rivaled only by his ability to read a defense and adjust accordingly. Yet for all his gifts, Peyton also seems cursed. Reminds you of another Manning, doesn't it? Is there a curse in the Manning family? Let's hope not. Peyton is one of those guys you just love to root for. You want him to win. Like Marino, Elway, Staubach...you just root for the guy because of who he is. But where is he going? Hall of Fame? Without Question. Cemented. History? With the greats. Superbowl? Hmmm.....

Great QB, like you say. I love his ability to read blitzes and to make his own calls at the line of scrimmage. Usually, that is, because as much as he might not want to admit it, the Steelers had him rattled in the AFC title game. His line wasn't the only one having trouble picking up the Pittsburgh blitzes and making adjustments. Of course, his struggles against the 3-4 defense have been well documented, and the fact that the Steelers are so good at masking what they do just compounds things.

Peyton does it all until he runs into defensive coordinaters that continually change schemes on him during the game. Lebeau never gave him the same look when he played the Steelers. He gets that deer in the headlights look and it is so strange because he almost always looks to be in control. He panics when this happens and becomes a totally different QB. He's a terrific player but he has to overcome this to move into the elite status.

Peyton Manning

Peyton and the Colts are who I turn to when the Lions stink up another week. Peyton looks even more amazing after watching a pitiful Lions performance.
