If ever there was a job that needed unbridled optimism and blinders, it is Indiana. They need a savior more than a coach. Crean looked at the Mt. Everest of trouble and called the job "an opportunity, not a challenge."
Crean left a comfortable successful gig in Marquette for the mess that is Indiana with his eyes open. He was looking at a fractured team, NCAA restrictions in place with probably more to come, and a Hoosier contingent that would always look at him askance because he wasnt a Bob Knight guy.
Now he's learned things are even worse than he thought. Many of the Hoosiers are in academically dangerous waters and are in danger of being academic casualties.
"The academics have got to get in order fast," he said.

What a mess this man has inherited. I wish him the best of luck. He's going to need it.
