Re: Bruce Pearl to Indiana

Welcome to the forum! Very interesting rumor... Sampson's as good as gone, from what I heard, but this is a new twist on things. Obviously, there'd be an interim coach for the rest of this season and Pearl would come on board at the end of the year, right?

Pearl won't leave Tennessee, he has 2 kids there and they like it. He is making himself a legend at Tennessee already. He is the kind of guy that wants to be his own man and make a name for himself at a university that doesn't have any "coaching icons" already. Think in the order of Boeheim not Gillispie.

Sorry, didn't mean nothing by it. Just saying that this is one of "those" jobs. Like Notre Dame or Alabama football coach, Yankees manager, etc. A lot of people would jump at the chance to lead the mighty Hoosiers; at least, I think the mystique still holds.

You better hope with everything you have that Indiana Basketball isn't like Notre Dame and Alabama football. When Notre Dame was looking for a new coach they thought they could have their pick of anyone in the world, turns out not alot of people wanted to coach in the shadow of all the great coaches that had been there and the rabid fanbase that demanded national championships. Think about it, at Indiana pearl will be compared by Knight and any season that doesn't earn at least an elite 8 is a failure. At UT he can build up his program as he sees fit with the assurance that the fans will always follow. As far as Alabama football, they haven't been able to get anyone to take their job because of the legacy of bear bryant.

If Indiana really is the Notre Dame and Alabama of basketball then you can try the two things those schools did, get a coach from the NFL or Offer a good coach alot of money. (By the way, if it comes down to money I have the utmost faith that UT will hold onto their pearl.)
