BLOOMINGTON, Ind. The Indiana Hoosiers had their spring scrimmage today, but coach Terry Hoeppner wasn't there.
Hoeppner took the spring off to regain his "strength and energy" after undergoing brain surgery twice.
He was hired in December of 2004 to rebuild an Indiana program that hasn't been to a bowl game since 1993. A year later, he had a tumor removed from his right temple and last September, he had a second procedure done. He then left the team for two weeks but watched both games from the press box before rejoining the team.
Last month, Hoeppner announced he was skipping spring practice, his third absence from the team in 15 months. He did not attend today's game which was played in cold, rainy, windy conditions.
