BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After not playing in the second half and scoring just two points Tuesday night against No. 11 Duke, A.J. Ratliff had an early-morning session the next day with Indiana basketball coach Kelvin Sampson.
The message was simple: The coach wanted Ratliff to start looking for his shot more and playing with the confidence he exhibited in practice.
Apparently, Sampson's encouragement hit the mark. Ratliff came off the bench Saturday to score a season-high 18 points, including 16 in the first half, as Indiana overcame a slow start to defeat Charlotte 74-57 before an announced crowd of 17,167 at Assembly Hall.
