Davis gone at Indiana

IU got beat by Penn State last night prompting this story...

I hate to see him leave. I think he is a solid coach and a great guy, but he does coach at IU and they demand a top notch winning program..

It's a shame, because he seems like a class guy, but 109-76 just will not cut it at a school like Indiana. He wasn't the best recruiter in the world and his teams just didn't get the job done. Plus, from the start it seemed like nobody in and around the program really wanted him there. He'll finish up the season, Steve Alford will become the next coach and everyone in Bloomington will be happy. Unless they start losing again.

It really isn't much of a suprise. If I recall correctly, Alford's the guy most Hoosier fans and folks around the program seemed to have wanted when Davis was hired. Of course, like the article says, his winning percentage at Iowa has only been marginally better than Davis's at Indiana, so I'm not sure they'd really be getting a better coach there.

You are right, he has not won much more than Davis. But Alford was a fan favorite during his days at IU, and has always been a class guy. Also, I think he will be able to bring in some better recruits than Davis.

Why is Davis out?

First and foremost, here's why Mike Davis will no longer coach Indiana's program: http://www.gregoden.com/

The fact that he let this guy leave his own backyard and end up at, of all freakin' places a football school like Ohio State, is why Davis is gone. From the start, Davis chose not to kiss the booty of Ind. HS coaches for recruits and as a result, Oden and his HS mate are Columbus-bound.

And as far as this thread is concerned, there are some troubling errors, like IU actually beat PSU at home and the linked Yahoo story claims soon-to-transfer forward D.J. White was the Big Ten Player of the Year. Make that Freshman of the Year (big difference).

Crazy Mike's got no one to blame but himself.

Oh, and I also predict that one Rick Majerus will soon be residing in Bloomington, Ind.

Matta at IU?

Right now there is much specualtion circulating around Columbus about Thad Matta's future at OSU. The university is waiting a pending court decision as to whether or not Ohio State is going be eligible for post-season play in 2007. If not, Oden and the rest of the top notch prospects commited to Ohio State are allowed out of their commitment. Now if this were to happen, many people believe Matta would leave OSU for IU and his incoming freshman class would leave with him. Again, just speculation but it would not surprise me because Matta refuses to comment on it, and typically that is indicative of someone weighing their options. And who can blame him?
