Schaub encouraged by sack-free preseason games

Matt Schaub has played in two preseason games for the Houston Texans and hasn't been sacked.
Sure it's only the preseason and his play has been limited, but for a team that allowed 249 sacks of David Carr in just five seasons, it's certainly encouraging.
So now the question is whether Houston's line is improved or Schaub simply avoids pressure better than his predecessor.
Coach Gary Kubiak said it is a little of both, but raved over the ability of Schaub and backup Sage Rosenfels to get rid of the ball when they're in trouble.
"We are protecting the quarterback better," Kubiak said. "But they understand protections. They take a lot of pride with not going down with the football, and they do that in practice as well as in the game. That's going to help you get better up front when you've got somebody doing that."

Re: Schaub encouraged by sack-free preseason games

I think Kubiak's nailed it - second year in his system, the o-line is going to be picking up blocking schemes better. But I also think Schaub's making decisions and releasing the ball quicker. It'll be exciting to see if this can keep up in the regular season, because this has the potential to be a very explosive Texans offense.
