Justin Gatlin Tries Out With Texans

Justin Gatlin set the world record in the 100-meter dash, but when he tested positive for a banned substance, the world of track and field told him he wasn't welcome back in the sport until 2014. An eight-year suspension is kind of a big deal, so Gatlin has decided to try another sport. He tried out with the Houston Texans this week.

Gatlin hasn't played football since high school, but his agent figures if you're the fastest man in the world, you could probably run some decent deep routes. And his agent should know: He's Renaldo Nehemiah, a former world-class hurdler and receiver for the San Francisco 49ers.

Gatlin is listed as 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, which certainly within the range of the right size for an NFL receiver. The one problem for Gatlin is that the NFL might not like having its pristine image tainted by a guy who was banned from another sport. Roger Goodell might lean on the Texans to avoid signing Gatlin, but if they're convinced that a speedy receiver like Gatlin is just what David Carr needs, that's a battle they'll be willing to fight.

Re: Justin Gatlin Tries Out With Texans

I was a big Gatlin fan, as track and field is my true sport. When he tested positive it absolutely devastated me. I swore never again to support this man. If he were to be signed by the Texans I would lose all respect for their organization. This guy should go bag groceries or something and leave sports alone

He is the first person I've ever met with ANY respect for the Texans program! They should sign him, the NFL has drug testing, and I think he learned. He would easily be the fastest rciever the NFL has ever seen.

we have one that goes by the name of Dante Hall =p That would be nice to have another coming of Hayes or Willie though, although I would prefer he play for at least a mediocre team..

Yea I ran track all of high school and was pretty darn good, the 400m was my race. Tore my hamstring Senior year which equaled no division II track for me! Oh well I am better off now! Anyway, yea I am fine with a track guy in football just not Gatlin. He was my FAVORITE runner. The way he ran the 100m, the way he came out of the blocks, was truly amazing. The minute I heard he cheated, I dont want him ruining another sport I love

Cheating is a harsh word...he "enhanced his chances for a record"...a page out of the old Ben Johnson playbook...

That guy was a handful for the track world, another guy who made people look down on track athletes.
