HOUSTON -- Rockets forward Shane Battier is once again competing for a roster spot with the U.S. national team.

Battier will begin training camp with Team USA in Las Vegas Friday and could be among the final dozen players selected to compete in the FIBA Americas Championships from Aug. 22 to Sept. 2. The championships are also slated to be in Las Vegas.

Battier, who competed with the national team in the 2006 FIBA World Championships, is one of 17 players expected to participate in the three-day mini-camp on the University of Nevada-Las Vegas campus.

The rest of the participants will include Denver's Carmelo Anthony, Detroit's Chauncey Billups, Toronto's Chris Bosh, L.A. Lakers' Kobe Bryant, New Orleans' Tyson Chandler, Seattle's Kevin Durant, Chicago's Kirk Hinrich, Orlando's Dwight Howard, Cleveland's LeBron James, New Jersey's Jason Kidd, Memphis' Mike Miller, Detroit's Tayshaun Prince, Milwaukee's Michael Redd, Orlando's J.J. Redick, Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire and Utah's Deron Williams.
