Fourteen-times All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez seems set to sign for the Houston Astros after the World Baseball Classic (WBC).
General manager Ed Wade told the team's website (
The Official Site of The Houston Astros | astros.com: Homepage) the deal was in the "discussion phase" before adding "in the last few days we see there is a possibility to get something done."
Rodriguez batted at just .219 with the New York Yankees in the last two months of the season after being traded from the Detroit Tigers.
The 37-year-old, though, is a career .301 hitter over 18 Major League seasons and has been in sparkling form at the WBC, hitting at .526 in five games.
"Houston's team needs a catcher," Rodriguez told reporters at Miami's Dolphin Stadium on Monday. "I'm ready to play."
So what do you think? I think this would help out the Astros and their journey to the play-offs.
