Roger Clemens rumors

The Rocket may still be leaving the Houston Astros, according to today's column by Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune. Rogers claims that Clemens will be placed on waivers in the near future, and the Yankees or Red Sox could claim him. If he makes it through waivers, says Rogers, he could still be traded. What do you think about this rumor?

Cool Re: Roger Clemens rumors

I don't see him making it through waivers. Someone will claim him. And it would make Clemens the biggest phony on the face of the planet.

Re: Roger Clemens rumors

At this point in Clemens career, I don't think anybody wants him. He is 44-years old with a losing record and a considerably low ERA of 2.32! There is not a lot of time for a turn-around and I don't think he would be helpful to Boston or the Yankees. He isn't going to finish the season with 15+ wins and is not going to contend for the Cy Young Award.

I would unfortunately consider his career, done.

Marc, buddy, what are you talking about?...A 2.32 ERA a 1.07 WHIP and 45K in 54 IP...are you kidding me?...that makes him still one of the best pithers in either league...

His ERA and WHIP is better than it was in any of his seasons with the Yankees...not his fault Houston doesn't score for him...This guy is better than Ryan was at 44...and better than 90% of the pitchers still around...love him or hate him, he is still amazing!

Re: Roger Clemens rumors

Absolutely right, Goth. Clemens would be a HUGE pickup for any playoff team with a sub-2.50 ERA and an average of 1 strikeout every 1.2 innings. Seems to me like he could pitch 2-3 more years minimum if he wanted to.

Re: Roger Clemens rumors

But don't forget that he has settled down in Texas and doesn't want to move anytime soon. His son, Koby, is in the Astros' farm system and seems like he will remain there. Do you think he will surpass his wishes of living in Texas, just to play baseball elsewhere for the remainder of the season?
