Lance Berkman For MVP

Lance Berkman for MLB MVP

yeah yeah ... its early .... but Lance Berkman is having a monster year

second in avarage .. batting .399

first in home-runs with 16

first in rbi with 44

second in on base % .... at .476

second in doubles with 16

tied for 23rd in at-bats (my point being he doesnt have the stats only because he has more plate appearances) .... Berkman has 163 at-bats .. Cristian Guzman has 188 at-bats

first in slugging % .... with a ridiculous .804 .... Chipper Jones is second with .679

tied for 91st in strikeouts with only 19

with these stats he is a lock for MVP .... imo the only thing that can keep him from winning it is injury

Re: Lance Berkman For MVP

Wow. That is a monster year. I was going to counter with Chase Utley, but he has been cooling off a bit!

After checking his stats, which aren't bad, I backed off that!

Chase is "only" batting 306, with 14 HR's and 31 RBI's, OBP of .388, and slugging at .636. He also has 13 2b's!

Good, but not as good as Berkman!

Still a long way to go, but Chipper is giving it a battle, and I think Chase will surely pick it back up.

Pretty interesting season so far.

i think Utley is a very good player ..... but as of right now not in the same conversation with Berkman for MVP

(i just noticed .... Chase has 28 strikeouts ... Lance only has 20 and Chipper only has 15)

as for Chipper ..... his average is a good bit better .... and he has less strikeouts .... but his slugging % is way down ..... as are doubles .. home-runs and rbi's

oh .... and i forgot to mention above .... Lance is tied for 9th with 8 stoled bases .... Chipper has 0

Re: Lance Berkman For MVP

But, as you said, it's very early. If you had done a poll at the end of April, when Chase was player of the month, it looked different.

And by the end of May, it can be very different.

It's easy to say that while Chase is in a slump, he is not in the same league.

We need to see the whole body of work for the season. I think the cream will rise to the top. And he resides in Philly.

We're going for the three-peat of MVP's.

Berkman has definitely been awesome thus far, but I'm guessing it won't last all season and will be long forgotten come MVP time.

Time to trade him in Fantasy league play......he is a great player...but he can't sustain it...trade him for some great pitching and an extra good hitter...

nope. I am in okay mood...though anyone is welcome to piss in my Cheerios...

In all honesty, I would be looking to trade Berkman and his .399 after the All-Star break...I play the math in fantasy...and the math says he is not a .399 hitter...I think he will finish between .340 -.349 at best...which means he will probably struggle to go over.300 in the second half.

That's my thinking too, hence why I don't think he'll wind up a legitimate MVP candidate. He's hot now, but it won't last.
