Roy Oswalt NL ERA title

Roy Oswalt of the Houston Astros finished the 2006 season with the best ERA in the National League, 2.98. He's the only NL hurler with an earned run average under 3.00, and he was second in the majors to only Johan Santana of the Twins. Think Oswalt has a shot at the Cy Young Award because of this?

Re: Roy Oswalt NL ERA title

Everyone has a shot at the NL Cy Young lol.

But Oswalt had a tremendous season. He hit a bit of a road block towards the end of July with all the swirling rumors of a possible trade but once that passed, and he signed an extension with Houston, he settled back down. He truly is one of the best young hurlers in the NL.

That is truly sad...only one guy in the league with an ERA under 3.00 and only 2.98 at best...has it come down to this?...are the ball parks so small now that baseball really is about hitting, and relief pitchers?...Is the day of the stud starter gone for good?

Re: Roy Oswalt NL ERA title

I still like Zambrano for the Cy Young. A higher ERA but he was 16-7 with a lot less hits allowed per innings pitched and a strikeout an inning, all while playing for baseball's version of the Washington Generals.

Yes. The only pitcher that is old school I think is Chris Carpenter who tries to throw a complete game every time out there. The days of Mel Stottlemeyer throwing 20 complete games in a season are long over.

Re: Roy Oswalt NL ERA title

A lot of baseball fans have problems with pitchers going out ther and pitching seven innings a start. Back in the day, a full game was a regular feat and nothing special. Today, it is a rare occurance that deserves applause?

With today's sluggers, yeah, a complete game deserves hearty applause.
