Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

Roger Clemens left tonight's Astros/Braves game after six innings of work. He gave up six hits, one earned run (2 runs total) while striking out six. At the moment, the Braves are leading 4-1 in the bottom of the 8th in Atlanta. The Astros went into tonight .5 games behind St. Louis with three games remaining in the year.

As I type, the Cardinals are leading the Brewers, 3-1 in the top of the 5th.

So it's very likely Roger Clemens has pitched his final game in the majors. That is, if he doesn't decide to un-retire for the millionth time.

Cool Re: Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

It looks like it's curtains for the 'Stros.....As far as Clemens goes- I'm sick of hearing about whether he retires or not.

Re: Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

Here is the latest update on this playoff race:

Cardinals won and they are one win (or Astros' loss) away from clinching.

Re: Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

St. Louis win or Astros loss on Sunday clinches the division.

A STL loss and Astros win on Sunday will cause the Cardinals to play the Giants on Monday. If the Cardinals lose that game then they'll play the Astros in a one-game playoff.

You're probably right Simon but with Clemens, you never know.

Re: Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

I bet Clemens comes back in '07, but for a different team. I'd guess, he'd return as a Yankee:

- He's 40+

- His career is coming to an end

- He wants a shot at one more ring

- He wants money

The Yankees fit his wants perfectly ( except for location). I'm sure Clemens see how the Yankees overpayed Randy Johnson and Kevin Brown...

Plus, Steinbrenner will want to make a splash in the off season. Clemens would be a huge splash.

( And, look, the Yanks don't have a problem with former steroid-taking players. Jason Giambi. Gary Sheffield.)

Re: Has Roger Clemens Pitched His Last Game?

I think he may come back, but my guess is he's waiting to see what kind of moves the Astros make this year. If they add Carlos Lee and some pitching, there's a chance. I do think that he's a lot more likely to retire this time around. We'll see, though. Might depend on Andy Pettitte, too who is likely waiting for the same reason.
