| Re: USA loses to Finland, big game for canada today I think they just keep it quiet if they do discipline refs. IN baseball they come right out in public if the fine one, but the other sports here can't comment due to thier unions. I didn't see the play. Too bad they won't make them play an OT to decide that game. But I'm sure logistics make that impossible. I think they actually made teams replay the very end of an NBA game once due to a bad call, the next time the teams met. But I could be wrong!

| Re: USA loses to Finland, big game for canada today Yeah there is certain "Refs are Royalty" treatment in the NHL, I will agree to that. They are there own kingdom with their protective barrier, their "moat". Once, ONCE I have seen a hockey player argue a call and the ref actually listened and decided the player was right. It's like a morality play for all of us to watch: a call is made (bad or good) and the player reacts as if the ref is insane and the ref ignores him and the coach obviously disgrees. But the maddening part is, if it is a bad call and the player or the coach react TOO much, they will get another penalty or get kicked out of the game. It's like refs are little tiny kings. I understand we have to respect them - there has to be a respect of the officiating - but in hockey, it's gone to their respective ref-heads. |
