RIGA, Latvia (AP) -- Sweden is two victories away from making hockey history.
No team, not even the mighty Soviets of the 1970s, has managed the elusive double in international hockey: winning Olympic gold and a world championship title in the same season. Sweden, which beat Finland in the Olympic final three months ago, faces Canada in one of the semifinals of World Hockey Championship on Saturday. The winner will play defending champion Czech Republic or Finland in Sunday's championship game.

Yes, so the road to the rare double zooms right through Canada this Saturday...pity those poor Canadians when they lose big...

Dirty swedes - you can't turn your back on them, cause look what happens.

Marc Denis and Alex Auld split duties for Canada, which faced 25 Swedish shots, with Auld replacing Denis after Sweden's fifth goal.

Crosby finished the game with a goal and assist, and, with 16 points, will likely win the tournament scoring title.

that's some compensation. now we're in line to win (or lose) the bronze vs Finland tomorrow. it's the czechs vs. the swedes for the gold.
bummer. bronze just doesn't hold the same...intensity. although, if that's what's up for grabs. Denis was not to blame - bad defense.
i think I might go for the czechs cause of Kaberle.

well, I got mix feelings on the whole thing...Sweden wins but Denis is a big let down...I mean team Canada goes down with a Blue Jacket is goal...were is the fun in that???

The guy cross checked Crosby while he was celebrating a gaol with his arms up in the air.
Since when do the canadians cry Hey you guys are mean at the swedes? AND we lost.

Anyone go after Hannula?... Doesn't Crosby have any body guards in this thing?...I mean the Future of hockey deserves a body guard.

Reminds me of the 1972 series between the NHL and Russia, which I only read about cause I was too little to see...They said that the Russians played really dirty in the corners...the NHLers were all black and blue in the series...and only Bobby Clarke was dishing it out.

huge here. I just bought a book on it yesterday. There was a miniseries just broadcast on it - we'll forever remember that.
Yeah, the russians were supposed to be dirty in the corners but we were dirty right in front of everyone, especially Clarke. It's canadian hockey. Exciting.
1972 series was akin to JFK's assassination - everyone remembers where they were when we won. I was sitting in class when i was 7 and they pulled a tv in so we could watch it. Everyone in Canada watched. People got off from work. Cause we were almost disagraced.

Yeah, correction Team Canada not the NHL as a whole...I was about the same age...but Iwas living in Miami...so they did not show the game that I can remember...I vaguely remember catching some of the Orr lead Bruin games...I didn't really get into hockey until 7th grade when I went to live in New York...

So, I don't know what I was doing during the big game...
