Blackhawks president John McDonough is considering hosting an outdoor game at Wrigley Field.

‘‘We had a meeting with the commissioner four weeks ago, and that was one topic we wanted to discuss,'' McDonough said on WSCR-AM (670). ‘‘It would be a huge event for the city of Chicago and for the NHL.


‘‘In the event we should be so fortunate to get the game, all venues would be in play. We've heard from most of them already, so we'll see where we would go. There's been a lot of talk about Wrigley, and I think Wrigley would be a terrific place for it.''

McDonough is the Cubs former president, and he was inspired by the success of an outdoor game in Buffalo.

‘‘It would be the winter version of the first night game [in Wrigley] feel,'' McDonough said on WMVP-AM (1000).

The biggest obstacle could be the New York Rangers' desire to play a game at Yankees Stadium before it's demolished for a new park.

I think the new Twins and Gopher Stadiums will be open. But I want to see Chicago get a Winter Classic. It would make me care about hockey for one day.

Yeah it would be cool in chicago. One of the reasons i suggested minnesota is because its the hockey state

I love this move toward outdoor hockey, and how successful it is every time a game is played.
Harkens back to olden days.
we need to get one going up here in Ontario and Quebec. Leafs vs. habs.
but i am happy to see American hockey spirit lift at this opportunity to watch the boys play outdoors.
